I should ask my Mom what time of day I was born. :) 59 years ago today I came into the world, premature, the first-born of two very happy young people.
My parents married for love at the almost-baby age of 19 and were visibly in love all of my life. They were very good role models of how to live together - sometimes there were sparks and high voices but there were also kisses and hugs and happy cuddles. :) I like to think that I have continued that pattern in my own marriage and I hope to see it in the relationships my children continue.
I decided recently that 59 is the new 39 (as in Jack Benny's always-39 age reply:). I stand on the brink of entering 'age' (as in 'how old are you?' young - until 40; mature - until 60; middle aged - until 80 ... after that, old:). There are many days when my body _feels_ aged. LOL! Can't keep a busy soul down, though - aside from the noun-recall issues, the brain works fine ... and, I'm very happy to say that my creativity works _just_ fine, thank you. LOL.
Still, a birthday is worth celebrating (I figure I can fret about impending age the day _after_ my birthday:). My friend Barbara B. gave me the lovely hand-made (in India) tile dish shown above, outfitted with strong magnets to be a pin dish (which I sorely need:). Happy colors sitting beside my sewing machine every day. :)
I got a number of other nice gifts (including the iPhone 4S from my sweetheart). All of which make me grateful for friends (among other things) today. Every year my birthday falls somewhere around Thanksgiving (and occasionally on the Day) - and feeling grateful has always seemed a natural response to my birthday. :) It is the one day of the year that I allow myself to do exactly what I feel like doing, with no guilt. LOL.
My friend Beth R. gave me this enameled metal broach - she knows I like to knit socks and I love bright colors. This was made by an artist:
My friend Genie C. gave me these two great books - "I don't get him," she told me, "but I know you like what he does." LOL. Simple patchwork, gorgeous colors ... easy to please, that's me. :) I have wanted to make my own version of the striped quilt on the cover of the second book ever since I first saw it - it's on my 'bucket' list of must-make-quilts.
:) Linda
