I am taking an online class from Karen Ruane of Contemporary Embroidery 'fame' - it is about keeping a sketchbook for embroidery study/development. I am likely to use a bit more broadly as I am more of a fabric than thread person. :)
The photo above shows one of the four pages I am working on for the first week's assignment - we are supposed to choose an image that we like and a.) extract all the colors we find in the image individually; b.) try to match threads to those colors; c.) try to identify shapes that might be of interest to include in our work and d.) try to experiment with variations of these colors and shapes. As you can see, I've just begun working with this image.
Here are three more I'm doing in the same way:
I ended up working on the sales floor a bit today (one of my clerks had to leave due to a family health problem) ... divided with working with Cindy W. for our MetroThreads mixed media special interest group. We were the only two members who came to today's (monthly) meeting, so we just worked on our own things and chatted. I think in the future we'll have to skip summer meetings for this group. :)
I got a pretty good bit done on sewing up our Quest scavenger hunt object yesterday and today (before opening). Maybe I'll get it done tomorrow so I can take a photo for the website. I am _really_ pleased with how it is coming out. :)
PS I started on the Medifast diet this week - pretty easy so far.
