Remember I said I was working on a new name tag? Such as it is, it is finished. :) I decided to use some of my pretty pins to fasten it with. The outer row is selvedges (so the edges will be finished and I didn't have to try to bind the whole thing). I'm quite satisfied with the tag - keep it in my (new) wrist wallet for meetings. :)
I am slowly improving as I pass my days quietly. I'm getting around with more stability. I could probably use the cane instead of the walker but the latter is easier to maneuver downstairs. :) Cane only, upstairs, and that works fine.
I am managing to do a little hand sewing every day. Yesterday I started in on this year's Take A Stitch Tuesday works. Sharon Boggins of Pintangle has started up the challenge again - each week on Tuesday, she posts a different surface embroidery stitch and participants are to experiment with that stitch over the coming week. The very first week's stitch was Fly Stitch and I made a sample:
The red piece is about 2.5" by 3.5" and is a red plaid boiled wool swatch appliqued onto a cotton flannel fabric in dark purple (eggplant?). I used a lavender 12 weight Aurifil cotton thread to embroider a border of single and nested fly stitch with clear beads on the nested ones. The tree is made with irregular fly stitches (I was inspired by someone else in the challenge who made a dandelion sead head that I quite liked:). The trunk is detached whipped fly to give it some 3D texture. The whole tree is just a bit less than 2" tall. :)
The next two week's stitches are Buttonhole and Feather ... by the time I get those done, next Tuesday will have come and a new stitch will be up. :)
Monday is Mimi's grad class meeting ... but I won't be going this month ... I have both the Physical Therapy nurse and the Home Service nurse coming that morning to check me over (and, with luck, to take out my 35 staples:) Also, it is too hard to maneuver in and out of cars with my walker and a bit too long a drive (30 - 45 minutes, depending on traffic) to Towson for my knee to stay bent, still. Next month for sure. :)
