My travel plans back to Ohio did not go exactly as anticipated. Instead of driving back on Saturday, I managed to get up and go on Sunday morning around 10 a.m. It was an interesting day to travel - sunny and hot but amazingly windy. The photo above was taken at my usual first stopping point at Sideling Hill. Maybe you can tell how windy it is by how many leaves are turned away (the wind was coming pretty strongly from my back)? It was a brisk wind, too - my little Dart sedan danced all over the roadway going across the Appalachian Mountains through western Maryland and West Virginia. Very few clouds in the sky - must have been a considerable jet stream to have pushed so much air around so fast! By the time I got to the farm, things had settled down to more normal breezes, though, so I expect I drove through some kind of weather front.
Here is the more usual photo I take at that stop:
I've been busy since I got back on Sunday evening. Monday I drove to Gallipolis to see the orthopedist again. They x-rayed my right foot and declared my two broken ankle bones healed. I liked the doctor there quite a bit - she took the time to show me my x-rays and pointed out all the arthritic deposits ... she seemed quite surprised by the evidence despite the fact that I told her I had a lot of arthritis all over my body (and named several examples of problems caused by it). Guess she wasn't listening or just didn't believe me. Grin.
I also ran several errands in Jackson on my way back (Gallipolis is about a 45 minute drive from here, to the east). As usual, visiting the lawyer, the courthouse, the post office ...
Tuesday I took my brother Kevin to see the eye doctor in Jackson to follow up on that 'floater' tear in his right eye. Apparently there has been no change for a month. Yeah! The doctor did suggest that we be sure to have it looked at once a year to be sure it stays benign. Again, we also stopped at the lawyer's office, the courthouse (different office this time - the door guard recognized me easily since I had to go around the metal detector again due to my artificial knees:).... the post office, the grocery store. I never seem to get it all done in only one trip a week. Sigh.
Today I had thought I would go to the regional Social Security office ... but then I remembered that they close at noon on Wednesdays. It came a roaming thunderstorm this afternoon so I was glad I didn't travel that far after all. I _did_ have to go to town yet again to visit the lawyer's office. This time I went to the public library instead of other errands. I was alone so I took the time to look up some of the Splendid Sampler blocks that use foundation patterns and print them out...this library charges $0.25 per page which I thought was reasonable. :)
Oh, that brings me to something that had my blood pressure elevated when I got home this afternoon. I took back to MD all the various bags of stuff I had slowly accumulated here in Ohio on this trip. When I got home and went through the bags I brought back with me, I discovered that I had neglected to bring back my fabric box AND my stitchery book box. Major Sighes! I really want to work on some blocks now ...
Tomorrow I am planning a trip to Chillicothe to visit the Social Security office (about 1.25 hours away) so I have added visiting the two quilt shops to my trip list. Time to buy yet more fat quarters - I want to make heart blocks for the Orlando quilt effort. Also some blocks for my modern guild's first bingo quilt project. So tough - a _reason_ to buy more fabric! :)
Friday I have to drive my brother Jeff to Lancaster, OH to visit the cardiologist again. Two hours each way - I hope it isn't too hot! :P
