This was the sky at sunset tonight, behind the old barn. I thought the colors were lovely. The lightning bugs (fireflies:) were rising as this was taken but I doubt I caught any of them in my picture. Talk about ephemeral!
I drove to Newark to see my brother yesterday. It was hot (96F) and humid (thunderstorms daily right now). I drove the van which was somewhat of a problem on the country road parts of the trip - the lanes are only a tiny bit wider than the van. No shoulder area on the roads, so I could feel the right side tires slipping off the tarmac. :P
Jeff was doing about the same ... and being obstinate. He seems to think that if he is just stubborn enough he'll somehow magically get well and everyone will stop poking him with needles and nagging him to cooperate. Sigh.
Today I spent the morning on house chores. Then I sat on the front porch for an hour and did some hand sewing on a bee block, listening to the bird symphony. So many layers of song - some of which I recognize and some I do not. Added to the sound of hundreds of thousands of rustling leaves blowing in the continuous breeze. Quite relaxing. :)
Kevin and I decided that we needed some groceries so we drove into town in mid afternoon to shop. When we got back, my Aunt Janice was at the farm. She needed to go to the store, too, and stopped by to see us before her shopping. As we sat on the porch to chat, a huge black storm cell blew up from the north and cracked like a thunder egg right over our house. Heavy rain, bright bolts of lightning, ear damaging thunder. Quite a show! It was well past 7 p.m. before she could leave.
An hour later, I took the photo above. Lovely cool evening with clean air. :) The temperature dropped into the low 70's in a half hour's time. Marvels of summer weather.
Tomorrow I will drive north to see Jeff again. Hope the traffic is taking the day off. Grin.
