We recently added a new brand of glue stick to our notions offerings - chiefly because I really like the way it works. Designed especially to hold fabric to fabric, it's called Lapel Stick and is non-toxic, acid-free and does not gunk up your needles!
I've been using one to baste my wool applique pieces down while making (my first) block for the Civil War Bride quilt and am really happy with the way it works. I also did one (small) piece of applique with the unit assembly method that Rose Hahn teaches and was pleased with the way the glue worked for basting the fabric edges under.
