Newbies and Goodies

Looking for a last-minute gift for a mother you know? These two small totes from Kona Bay are made with hot/cold insulating materials AND a zipper on top. Great for lunches on the go! :)

Today's shipments also include some glorious newbie bolts of fabric and some old favorite notions. First, the fabric - bolts and bolts of more Stonehenge mottled prints from Northcott:

Another new treat from Northcott are PRE-CUT STRIPS of STONEHENGE:

We ordered a number of sets of these lovelies - Metallic is the set that came in today (more soon, I trust:). Imagine what you can make with these strips!!

Now, those of you who are familiar with Rose Hahn and her Unit Assembly methods for Applique will know what this stuff is:

Stable Magic is great for foundation piecing, too - you don't tear it out. When you wash your quilt, the binder in these paper-like sheets dissolves and leaves a bit of short-staple cotton fluff to mix in with the batting of your quilt. Useful in other stitch-and-flip techniques, too! :)

Here is a pattern that you should all be able to respond to, living as we do here in Maryland along the eastern seaboard:

This, too, was designed by Rose Hahn and is the best crab pattern I have personally ever seen. :) Libbie is (justifiedly) annoyed with me - I sold our sample of this pattern a couple of months ago (thinking we would not be carrying it any more). (blush) Now I have to find fabrics and have a new crabby sample made up for display. (ducking)

Winter in May

Believe it or not, we start getting our Winter Holiday prints beginning in MAY! Our second installment on Winter 2011 came today:

Oh, before I forget, here are some books that we got in last week (newly published) while I was 'away':

This one is filled with classically popular designs - it is a selection from That Patchwork Place books of 'favorite quilts', including one from Mimi Dietrich's book, Bed and Breakfast Quilts (now out of print). :)

This book has some very nice traditional designs in it, including the truly lovely (imho:) quilt you can see at the bottom of the cover photo.

I'm not usually overly fond of floral designs ... but there are several in this book I quite like (and one I might even make:). Large blocks and easy applique methods make for fast - but still pretty! - quilt making.

Good designs for using those lovely fat quarter bundles you've been petting and not cutting into!:)

I quite like a number of designs in this book - graphic, lots of room for beautiful quilting, quick to make ... what's not to like?

Here are several more new bolts of fabric that came today (including one I bought three yards of for my own stash - see if you can guess which one:)

We got a new volume in the popular series of pre-cut strip design books today - I particularly like Full Moon (on the cover) and Comet (featuring stars):

Just to 'round out' our offerings, we got several new issues of magazines for you, too:
 

This is the bi-annual Quilt Shops issue - with some great places to visit inside (I am partial to the bright, beach-y shop in Hawaii, myself:)

This issue of Patchwork Tsushin from Japan has some glorious redwork embroidery designs!

Textile Day at the BMA

Just a quick note to share with you some information that just came across my desk yesterday. Apparently the Baltimore Museum of Art is holding a Textile Day on Saturday, May 14th from 11 - 5.

There will be guided tours of the collection with a curator and a whole afternoon filled with great textile-oriented activities. You can read the details here - they include hands-on activities with fabric and silk painting, fabric stamping and block printing, screen printing, fabric designs and off-loom beadwork stitches. Fun for the entire family!

Here are photos of some new fabrics we got in to the shop this week - I have not been here since Tuesday and I just found these on my camera. :) At least I get to see what is new along with you! :)
