We got seven, 7!, new books in today's delivery and only two, 2!, bolts of fabric. (sigh) The two bolts are from Andover, designed by Lonnie Rossi - I took a close up shot of each one as well as the all-over so you could see the details:
Now for the books ... seven is a fair number - I invite you to come in and take a look at them for yourself ... Here they are, with parenthetical commentary by me. :)
The premise behind this book is straightforward - using only one block design (see it? square in a square), how many quilt designs can you come up with? Lots of great ideas and written for the barest beginner to follow easily. :)
Again, simple and quick quilts to make - great for beginners or anyone who wants to make a quilt quickly.
Lots of great quilt making puns here - all the designs in this book use charm squares. The quilts are the sort that make me want to cocoon up in my living room and knit or do hand applique - home-y and cozy, fer shure. :)
I've been looking forward to this book. Very simple designs and very thorough explanations about using color and making transparency illusions with fabric.
I'm beginning to think that the label 'modern' is a bit like the big-deal-word 'natural' from the 80's. This book is full of great designs for free-motion quilting, most of them drawn from nature. A nice addition to any quilt making library!
The author of this book, Sue Daley, is well known in her native Australia for her usage of the English Paper Piecing techniques. I read her blog regularly and have been interested in seeing what she makes. :) The 'New' part of this title is very true - it's not just hexagons anymore! Some wonderful designs here and, from my first skimming through the volume, great instructions.
I was a charter subscriber to the Quilt Maker magazine and I have enjoyed all their 'best of' editions. This book has some great designs, all done with foundation piecing, to excite any level of quilt maker. I am especially taken with the 'pickle dish' version of the wedding ring - lots of visual excitement!
Do come by to take a look at these and other great books and patterns we stock here at Seminole! We will be open several days between now and New Year's - check below the fold on our website for our closings.
:) Linda
