Alice I. just finished a new sample for the shop that I really like. :) She used a preprinted panel of fishing folks and an easy-to-make pattern from this book, Rotary Cutting Revolution, called 'Old Italian Block.' What an easy way to create a 'window' effect!
Alice says she had to fussy cut a bit of a second panel to keep the horizon line even - you wouldn't have to do that if you didn't want - but otherwise it was a snap to make! She put it up on our front wall display area - take a good look the next time you come in (and ask her for info if you need to:)!
I think this same idea would work wonderfully well for any large scale print - the book shows two samples of large quilts made using an assortment of fat quarters as the 'scenery.'

We got seven, 7!, new books in today's delivery and only two, 2!, bolts of fabric. (sigh) The two bolts are from Andover, designed by Lonnie Rossi - I took a close up shot of each one as well as the all-over so you could see the details:
Now for the books ... seven is a fair number - I invite you to come in and take a look at them for yourself ... Here they are, with parenthetical commentary by me. :)
The premise behind this book is straightforward - using only one block design (see it? square in a square), how many quilt designs can you come up with? Lots of great ideas and written for the barest beginner to follow easily. :)
Again, simple and quick quilts to make - great for beginners or anyone who wants to make a quilt quickly.
Lots of great quilt making puns here - all the designs in this book use charm squares. The quilts are the sort that make me want to cocoon up in my living room and knit or do hand applique - home-y and cozy, fer shure. :)
I've been looking forward to this book. Very simple designs and very thorough explanations about using color and making transparency illusions with fabric.
I'm beginning to think that the label 'modern' is a bit like the big-deal-word 'natural' from the 80's. This book is full of great designs for free-motion quilting, most of them drawn from nature. A nice addition to any quilt making library!
The author of this book, Sue Daley, is well known in her native Australia for her usage of the English Paper Piecing techniques. I read her blog regularly and have been interested in seeing what she makes. :) The 'New' part of this title is very true - it's not just hexagons anymore! Some wonderful designs here and, from my first skimming through the volume, great instructions.
I was a charter subscriber to the Quilt Maker magazine and I have enjoyed all their 'best of' editions. This book has some great designs, all done with foundation piecing, to excite any level of quilt maker. I am especially taken with the 'pickle dish' version of the wedding ring - lots of visual excitement!
Do come by to take a look at these and other great books and patterns we stock here at Seminole! We will be open several days between now and New Year's - check below the fold on our website for our closings.

We got some new quilt magazines in today's delivery - some lovely things to look at and learn from while you stay indoors for winter. :)
First, a brand new magazine for those of you who enjoy 'Modern' quilt making. Weeks Ringle and Bill Kerr are publishing Modern Quilts Illustrated - this is the first issue - specifically to focus on 'modern' quilting. There are _no_ ads in the mag and the content is pretty good. In addition to patterns/projects, that are quite a few great tips and ideas! :)
We also got three new issues of Australian Patchwork & Quilting - filled with fun projects, ideas, even the ads are inspiring. :)
Wherever you are and whatever you are doing this week, remember to take some time to Breathe and enjoy yourself!

Yesterday afternoon we got our William Morris and Company prints in from Moda, selected by noted quilt historian Barbara Brackman. I know a bit about the history of William Morris and the Arts & Crafts movement in the late 19th century ... but I forget all that when I see these fabrics. I just love them for their natural beauty. :) In no particular order, here they are (note that these are always popular prints and, if you like them, don't wait too long to come in to see them as they sell quickly).

We got a number of new books and quite a few calendars in today's shipments (Patty came in for the Basket Party and stayed to open boxes:). The photo above is a teaser (more info about it in a moment:)
First, what a crop of great new calendars! I enjoy looking up and seeing something lovely in the way of quilts on my office/kitchen wall every year. How to choose which one(s) I want? :) I took photos of the backs, too, so you can see the assortment of goodness. :)
Now for the books. That photo at the top of this post is my favorite quilt from this book:
Here is a good basic text (from what I can tell on thumbing through it):
Do you like making bags? Do you have someone young (or young-at-heart:) who likes special bags? Here's a great choice:
I really liked most of the samples in this book - talk about warm, cozy and home-y!
Remember the first of these? This one looks like at least as much fun:
