I got my second goodie package from Cherrywood Fabrics in the mailbox yesterday (I made a second pledge to their Kickstarter project). Lovely, lovely hand dyed fabrics. Hmmmm. Have to think of something really nice to make with these!
Today was Sew & Tell monthly meeting and my friend Barbara B. drove me to the meeting at Genie's house in the western part of Howard County. The day was hot (-ish, at mid-90's) and sunny ... very good day to enjoy the country scenery and sew indoors. :)
Barbara brought me my share of a bundle of 30's prints she and I bought while we were out Row-By-Rowing last month...I think these are such cheerful prints!
We've been collecting 30's era prints together for some time ... and I have at least two ufo projects using them .... got to get at least one of them out to finish! :) Just the kind of cheerful, perky fabrics I need to see today (have been feeling a bit house-bound with my knee limitations; such a draaaag, not being able to drive myself places). :)
She also brought me a Kumihimo kit to make braided jewelry which I am eager to start (always love to start new projects:).
I managed to spend my sewing time at the meeting finishing up my Chthulu plushie for Baby O - I used four different 'minky' pile designs to make this guy. He was fun and I think he turned out adorable ... but I want to make him again (maybe using quilting cottons). He's a bit .... um .... wonky, as such toys go. :)
I think he a looks a little like an Einstein Chthulu ... or maybe a Mad Bomber one. LOL! That shaggy pile I chose for his back is luscious soft and furry but a bit wild. :)
I definitely would recommend this designer's toy patterns - well written, easy to sew, cute results. :) Nerd's daydream. :)

Thanks, Musings ... I sure hope so. :) My daughter tells me that baby O doesn't chew on his toys, he licks them. My fingers are crossed that little Chthulu gets a Lick of Approval. LOL!

What a great plushie for a little one. I am sure it will get a lot of love.

Hi, Karen. I don't know where you live, but here in the Baltimore/DC area, different stores carry 30's repro prints.
As a former shop owner, I can tell you that the buyers have to be present in your customer base to make it worthwhile to carry any kind of prints. We only bought 30's as fat quarter bundles and such - didn't have enough people who loved them to sell many bolts (even though I love them:). ON the other hand, just a few miles away in Annapolis, the shop there (Cottonseed Glory) carries a very nice array of 30's prints and they sell well.
So, you have to have a shop owner who likes them and knows how to market them ... AND you have to a customer base who wants to buy them. :)
Like retail everywhere, there is a constant balance between these factors for every shop. I am guessing that's why Internet sellers do well...for those of us who can't find what we love locally (although, if you draw your definition of 'local' wide enough, you can find most anything here on the East Coast; it is a 2 to 3 hour drive to the shop where I bought the 30's I"m showing in this blog post:)

Greetings! Lovely 30s collection. I am just starting collecting some for a scrappy apple core quilt. I am amazed that many stores do not carry them anymore even those who had so I found several in the clearance racks.
