I got another embroidered (by machine) name slip so I made a new name tag for myself. Just finished it today so I'm counting it as my Slow Sunday Stitching project. :) Those are 1/2" hexies ... maybe you can see the scale by comparing it to the computer keys its laying on? :) At the top (maybe you can barely see them above the red flower hexies) I attached a selvege/ribbon so this tag can hang around my neck. I even hand quilted it (so tiny:).
The only other thing I have finished this week is the little Halloween wall hanging I started last year - my 27 Bats (that's how many little bats I pieced, there are oodles more on the border fabric:). I'm really happy with this little quilt ... and happy that it is done in time to enjoy for Halloween (rare for me to get a decoration done in time for the intended holiday:).
There is a bit of keyholing in this photo 'cause of the way I took it (laying on my sofa) ... sorry. Good thing this is not a photography blog, eh? :)
Most of this past week has been spent quietly indoors. It's been raining here on the East Coast and my car was in the shop until Thursday ... I am sewing on several things but not getting much finished, besides my bats.
Last weekend my local quilt shop (Springwater Designs) had a national teacher (Debby Brown) come in to teach a long-arming seminar ... and I took one of the classes on Friday morning, on using templates and rulers to do machine quilting. I've been a machine quilter since the early 90's and I love free motion work but I want to have the option to do more symmetrical quilting than I can, currently. The three hour class was exactly what I needed! I feel much more confident about the process of using rulers and templates with my free motion quilting now.
I bought a 'VersaTool' ruler and came right home to use it on my bats. I wanted the wing arcs to be reasonably symmetric (the ears and feet of my bats are all irregular free motion but somehow that seems ok to me:) ... and, with the ruler, I managed to do that. I am pleased anyway. :)
I spent today at my monthly Sew & Tell meeting with my friends, working on the name tag I showed above. I'm pleased with it, too.
So, not much housework or other progress in my life, but some sewing finishes. :) Tomorrow is 'Grad' class at Bear's Paw in Towson, MD and then I need to spend some time this week working on charity sewing. Hope the weather improves - I am some kinda tired of gray rain. :P
