This is a flat Chuck ... he landed for a visit with my neighborhood birds all the way from Missouri with an order of background fabric from Missouri Star Quilt Company. I got a good chuckle out of Chuck - who quacks like a duck but is clearly a proto-rooster. :)
If you look carefully, you will notice that Chuck is enjoying a popsicle while he hangs around the 'hood (what flavor do you think that would be? Mint?:) He certainly needs it and most of us would enjoy one, too, hot as it is right now here in eastern Maryland. We have not had quite as harrowing a summer as the southwest has so far - but my car's thermometer did say the outdoors got up over 100 degrees F today. :P
I should start making notes here daily ... except that my days run together so much. I'm either sewing in my room, eating, sleeping or reading one day and running around with my brother Kevin the next. It all slides away (slip slidin' away, as Paul so famously sings) so easily from me.
I have been slowly cleaning up in my sewing room. I still have a LONG way to go but I can see progress now. Many things yet to sort out - am overcoming a good ten years of dump-and-run disorganization. Sigh. I have been doing some fairly mindless sewing to rest between bouts of sorting - making Jacob's Ladder blocks with a layer cake of Barbara Brackman's Best of William Morris prints.
One reason I've gotten so little accomplished in my sewing room cleaning campaign is that I've been focusing on clearing out my niece's 'stuff' from my brother's condo. I found homes for the extra furniture he did not need (donated to Restore/Habitat for Humanity) and for the art materials she left behind (donated to Scrap B'More and to Grassroots). Along the way we had to divert to buy Kevin a new TV (his got zapped by a lightning-induced power surge) ... and to combat the insect/pest problems associated with living in a large apartment building (visits for a monthly de-pest from professionals).
Now Kevin and I are on a quest to find a nice sofa, another cushy armchair, end tables and coffee table for his living room. Once that is accomplished, we will buy a big wall tv for that room and the place will be done (for now:).
We made a whole day trip to visit Ikea in White Marsh, MD to look around. Kevin enjoyed the cafeteria's serving of Swedish meatball dinner and discovered a sofa and rocking chair he likes there. The sofa is on back order so we are waiting to order one as soon as it is back in stock.
Meanwhile, we have been visiting the various ReStore outlets around Baltimore. We went to the one in Timmonium (north of Baltimore) earlier this week. Saw pretty things but nothing compelling enough to buy ... except for this treasure:
At $200 it seemed a bit pricey but it ran like a dream. I was sorely tempted but resisted. Might have to go back, though - sure was pretty! :)
Trying to get my ducks in a row to go on a midwestern tour to see family. Planning required!
