The first Monday of most months is the meeting of Mimi Dietrich's Grad Class group - this is a group of people who have all taken Mimi's Year Long Baltimore Applique class. I was privileged to host Mimi's classes while I owned Seminole Sampler (quilt shop) in Catonsville, MD and have been a member of this group ever since. Today was the monthly meeting of Mimi's group - who have been meeting since she taught the first class series in (I _think_) 1989.
I took a few photos of show and tell items today - always the best part of any quilt group meeting imho. :) Let me show you some:
This is Polly Mello, showing a quilt she bought recently (whose maker's name I forgot to write down). It features a broken rose - symbol of mourning in 19th century times - and some beautiful pearl buttons (the shine around the central weeping willow motif, another symbol of mourning).
This is a very special temperature quilt (in progress) that Nechama is making for one of her sons and his bride. The temperatures are those from the year they married.
Nechama also shared a block from the quilt she is making for her first grandson - each block features a different amusement park ride.
This is my dear friend Patty, sharing a Strip Twist quilt (design by Gudren Earla) made with Japanese prints (most of which she bought while working at my shop:). Mimi is helping her hold the quilt.
There were other things shown but those are the ones I managed to get photos of taken. :)
The group meets at Bear's Paw quilt shop in Towson, MD. Today I bought fabric to border and back my two embroidery pieces made from Wattle & Loop kits. Also two fat quarters to make our next block for drawing - a butterfly. Oh, and a fat quarter to use as the base print for a mug-rug-size faux 'kawundi' quilt made with the remaining vintage fabric bits from my two kits. My new hand work carry-around project since I finished my two W&L blocks.
By the time we got home around 2(?), I was tired. I thought I'd sew some but I fell asleep instead and napped until about 5 (no short naps for me:). I had already promised Patty I would drive to Faithful Circle's evening meeting around 6:20.
As usual, FCQ meeting was fun - great to see friends, admire their projects, listen to all the local quilting news and events and guild plans, admire the show and tell. Patty brought two quilts she got back from our long-arm quilting friend Kim Comet at the Grad Class meeting in the morning. Happy, happy.
:) Linda
*The date on this post is October 3rd but I am writing it just after midnight on the 2nd - still Monday in my book. :)
