These pretty flowers are blooming in the median circle on my court (I live on a cul de sac street with nine houses). I don't know who planted them - our circle is an overgrown weedy mess at the moment, in bad need of attention. Pretty flowers, though!
The weather has been beautiful the past several days - mild daytime temps, around mid70s to mid80s with blue skies and gentle breezes. Fall is in the air - you can see some brown fallen leaves in the pics above - but no trees are turning color, yet. Days to be treasured. I managed to go out for a short walk in the late afternoon today and enjoyed every step. :)
Yesterday my brother, Kevin, and I went to the Ikea store in White Marsh, MD to buy some living room furniture for his condo. We had lunch in the cafeteria first then walked through the showroom to be sure of what we wanted to buy. We had been in a scouting trip before so we had a pretty specific list - a sofa, armchair and two side tables for him and a kitchen pantry cupboard for my house.
Here's what we bought for his living room (we already have an upholstered armchair with ottoman and floor lamp). An Upland full sized sofa with charcoal gray tweedy fabric, a Poang rocking chair in blue, and two Vittsjo glass side tables. They are to be delivered on Sunday some time (no way could the two of us deal with that haulage:).
I got a Besta floor standing cupboard for our kitchen - we have a very small pantry and need a place to keep extra pots/pans and cans of food. Besta is a customizable series of Ikea items and I could not find a photo on their web site of exactly what I bought (and now have to build:) It's white and was on sale for their annual 'anniversary' promotion. (Yeah for sales:)
It only took us an hour to get all that arranged for and to load the car with my Besta components. Oh, and I bought a desk lamp for Kevin to use when he works on his jigsaw puzzles at the dining room table - the overhead in that room is fine for dining but a bit inadequate for fine color/shape discrimination. :) Ad about an hour and a half for travel time there and back and we felt quite efficient and business like in our errand. :)
Today I managed to spend some time working on bordering the two collage applique/embroidery pieces I've been making lately. One is designated for my daughter and one for my son (I don't think either of them read my blog so this 'reveal' is safe). I will need to baste these two little tops up and (probably) hand quilt them before binding and labeling. Xmas gifts, maybe?
Here is my choice for my son - a mother polar bear and her cub:
If you click on either photo you can look at the details. I really enjoyed making these pieces (from Wattle&Loop kits I ordered from Australia). Why did I choose bears? Mostly as a sly reference to me and my mothering style. :)
Here is the piece for my daughter - these are cherry blossoms which are famous around here (DC and Baltimore) as an icon of our region. I thought she might enjoy a bit of home out there in the cold upper midwest. :)
I also got to spend some time in the early evening today sewing two of the four corner designs for my William Morris themed top in progress. I used up all the fabric I had bought for the project. Sigh. Tomorrow I am going to sew at Springwater Designs with my friends (open studio) so I can search for a couple more fat quarters of the Morris Meadows print collection (Barbara Brackman) and a nice border print. I look forward to sending this project off to be long arm quilted soon!
:) Linda
